Thursday, November 1:
Arrival in Jerusalem
Introduction to the seminar

Friday, November 2:
Theme of the day: Roman Jerusalem and Judaism
Morning: Tour in the Old City (The walls, the gates, Bethesda, the temple of Herod, Cardo)
Afternoon: Lecture / seminar
Evening: Western wall and dinner

Saturday, November 3:
Theme of the day: Judaism
Morning: Synagogue service and Museum of Israel (Qumran scrolls, 2nd temple Judaism, Herodian and Byzantine archaeology)
Afternoon: Lecture /seminar
Evening: Introduction to the Church of Resurrection and night service there

Sunday, November 4:
Theme of the day: Judaism and Early Christianity
Morning: No program
Afternoon: Mount Zion, Upper Room and Tomb of David
Late afternoon: Lecture / seminar

Monday, November 5:
Theme of the day: Early Christianity
Morning: In the footsteps of Egeria, Mount Olives, Via Dolerosa
Afternoon: Lecture / seminar

Tuesday, November 6:
Theme of the day: Early Islam
Morning: Temple Mount, Mosques (Haram al-Sharif).
Afternoon: Lecture / seminar.

Wednesday, November 7:
Excursion outside Jerusalem: St George, Wadi Quelt, Jordan Baptism site, Qumran, Nabi Musa

Thursday, November 8:
Excursion outside Jerusalem: Hebron, Oak of Abraham, Haram al-Kahlil, Makpela, Bethlehem

Friday, November 9:
Seminars and lectures, discussions and conclusions
Evening: Farewell dinner.

Saturday, November 10
Departure

The excursions, lectures and reading seminars will be conducted by experts in the three religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) who are living in Jerusalem and by the organizers of the seminar.

There will be minor changes in the program as the arrangements with the Jerusalem lecturers and guides are finalized.

Practical information
Who can participate?

Master students, PhD students and postdoctoral students in relevant fields of study are invited to apply for participation. Because of the nature of the program PhD-students have the first right to participate in case too many applies.

If too many PhD students have registered by August 1, 2012, the organizers will decide who will participate. The decision will be made on the basis of the information about the subject of your thesis. We will choose those who work on themes closest to the theme of the seminar. We do, however, expect that all who are interested can take part in the seminar. The decision of participation will be made right after August 1.

Deadline: August 1, 2012. Please, send your registration as soon as possible.

The following information is needed:

  • Name
  • Address including country
  • E-mail address
  • Date of birth (for eventually reimbursing of expenses)
  • Bank account including IBAN- and SWIFT codes (for eventually reimbursing of expenses)
  • Theme of your doctoral thesis
  • Short (10 lines) description of your interest in participating

Fee for participating

The fee for participating is 4000 n.kr. per person. The fee has to be paid on September 1. Participants will be informed about the account number when their participation is accepted. This fee covers (together with the support from NordForsk) all the expenses connected to the seminar.

Travel and accommodation

Flight tickets and accommodation have been booked. The tickets cover departures from Copenhagen, Oslo or Stockholm. Participants from Iceland and Finland will be reimbursed for their travels to one of the three airports. Participants from Iceland and Finland must contact Anders-Christian Jacobsen before booking flights to one of the three airports.

Accommodation in Jerusalem

We will be accommodated in Hotel Gloria which is situated in the old town of Jerusalem.
